Not Fannying About
Hi! Sorry for the lack of posting this Wednesday...I was busy slythering around Diagon Alley, the Ministry of Magic, and other Harry Potter spots. This week has been an adventure, and the city's busy streets and countless experiences have definitrely caught hold of me.
Since I last wrote, I have definitely been up to no good: I watched twilight (aka the best movie ever), explored Covent garden with a friend (and we got the best hot chocolates I've ever had - don't skimp on white chocolate), watched a naked man walk a tightrope while squeezed into a tennis racket (london street shows are wild), went to my first club in london (and got hammered while listening to the best live music), woke up on saturday bright and early ready for an excursion to Hampton Court palace (nothing like taking a tour hungover btw), met up with another friend at Shoreditch (easily one of my best experiences so far), had our CEA welcome dinner, went to some classes and found a cafe to study in (and I have a bone to pick here. Why has no one told me that the cafe I thought would be my writing go-to, cafe nero, is actually a famous chain restaurant in the US? Now I've gotta do some cafe exploring, so please send me recs bc nothing even comes close to fuckoffee), hung out with some british flatmates, went for a drink with some friends at our local pub, went on a harry potter walking tour, saw some adorable horsies, walked along westminster bridge and made my trip instagram official lol, went jewelry shopping in Notting Hill, went to a pub in Kings Cross, and now am back at Fuckoffee writing this entry right now. The pictures are all attached if anyone wanted to see it all in action.
So as usual, a crazy week. And there's so much more to look forward to-- tomorrow we're going punting in Cambridge, Wednesday (aka my half birthday) we're seeing the West End production of Phantom of the Opera, and my upcoming trip to Paris is also this month:) With all there is to do, its hard to not be overwhelmed, but as I get closer with my friends here and explore more areas (we're thinking of going to Brighton in a few days), I love it here more and more. Oh, and this entry is called not fannying about because that's british slang for not messing around, and everything on this journey is starting to feel more permanent.
But I definitely love that because I no longer feel like a tourist and I feel a little more at home. Not that knowing where William and Harry spend their free time didn't immediately transform me back into a tourist, because I will be at that roundabout at all hours to get a glimpse of the royals-- that's a promise. I also definitely need to reread/rewatch the harry potter series because not knowing the answers to the questions was quite dissapointing, and I don't think Hermione would approve.
This has definitely been a week also of learning a lot, from which hallway of Henry the 8th palace is haunted by his dead wives to the fact that his son was engaged at 12 years old, to the fact that Gringotts bank was actually based off of the Austrailian embassy. So now I guess you shouldn't "fanny about" with me either, since I'm kind of a london expert (or kind of since I don't think I'll ever get used to called chips "crips" or think about temperatures in celsius. I honestly cannot be arsed.
